Am I the only person in the world who thinks that Forza Motorsport is a ridiculous name for a car racing game? It could have been a name for a political party that propagates … car racing, car racing and nationalism!
Since I’m the most senior gamer in the house and since I have read the comments on the Eurogamer board after its review of the game Forza Motorsport (from now on abbreviated to FM), I can only say that, it is a good game.
Having also played Gotham Project 2 (from now on GP2), here are the major differences between the two:
- Graphical: Yes, FM is graphically advanced. There are actually races that are a joy to drive, particularly the mountain hill climbs. They feel and look like mountain hill climbs, which is quite an achievement for a car driving game. While GP2 adds pretty good details to its own scenery too, every circuit feels ‘a bit more of the same’.
- Playability: FM is challenging, geared towards the ‘car head’ but easy to play, even for people not really interested in the technical car details. Difficulty is centered around events and goes up gradually. At GP2, difficulty is too often focused on winning yet another cone challenge. However, I must admit that racing in GP2 is (because of the different races within a specific challenge) a bit more varied. If you want plain cars, FM has them all. From plain Clios to Hyundais.
- Music: I have to mention this and I concur with the review by Eurogamer.net. FM’s music is annoying. It’s terribly repeative. And poor quality at that. No offence meant to JunkieXL, but I think his music is ‘overrated’. I like the concept that GP2 came up with, which gives the impression you can ‘flip’ radiostations or channels during any race. The music in GP2 also feels authentic to the scenarios and races: there goes nothing above racing and listening to some weird Russian radiostation. Or Japanese at that. Lets say it this way: if the FM’s graphics weren’t as neat, it would have been a boring game just because of the music.
