{"id":964,"date":"2006-02-19T16:07:05","date_gmt":"2006-02-19T20:07:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=964"},"modified":"2006-03-10T22:55:34","modified_gmt":"2006-03-11T02:55:34","slug":"bow-wow-wow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=964","title":{"rendered":"Bow wow wow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcap\">W<\/span>hile preparing snapshots of music from Sonic Youth, for a new addition to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?cat=20\">&#8216;Past-The-Bridge&#8217;<\/a> collection, I decided to turn the clock back a bit more (once again <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=150\"skipping Sonic Youth<\/a>, I see): right to the Eighties. I&#8217;ve discussed <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=39\">Bow Wow Wow<\/a> before here.\n<\/p>\n<p>Back to the Eighties: from what I know from memory, the band Bow Wow Wow was (literally) raked together by British musical &#8216;enfant-terrible&#8217;, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Malcolm_McLaren\">Malcolm McLaren<\/a>, who apparently, was the first manager to ask a front singer (a teenager) to pose naked <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bow_Wow_Wow\">on an album cover<\/a>. I have no memories to the public outcry around that time: I do remember the band promoting their latest (catchy) tune &#8216;Do you want to hold me&#8217;  on the Dutch version of &#8216;Top of the Pops&#8217;. I also recall the mohawks, a hairdo that became synonymous with rebellion in the age of punk and ska.\n<\/p>\n<p> At that time, younger and interested in other kinds of music, I didn&#8217;t care about Bow wow wow. 22 or 23 years later, I remember flying over CD covers, picking out the bands&#8217; sampler and dragging it along to several &#8216;Eighties&#8217; party. Not because it is good music, but it&#8217;s surely catchy and is (once again) a living proof of McLaren&#8217;s genius.\n<\/p>\n<p><small>Update: YouTube has the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/?v=POXhsifthYM\">original video online<\/a>. Look for the scary Reagan picture!
