{"id":823,"date":"2005-11-20T17:00:07","date_gmt":"2005-11-20T21:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=823"},"modified":"2005-11-20T17:01:16","modified_gmt":"2005-11-20T21:01:16","slug":"red","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=823","title":{"rendered":"The Red."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcap\">T<\/span>here&#8217;s a couple of posts sticking in the back of my mind: Alfons&#8217; short reminder of <a href=\"http:\/\/hoogervorst.dyndns.org\/~alfons\/wordpress\/?p=266\">Spain&#8217;s political duality<\/a> (and the younger generation&#8217;s push to break the silence) and Alan&#8217;s (gigantic) effort to host the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genx40.com\/archives\/2005\/november\/theredensign\">Carnival of the Red Ensign<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>Both posts remind of a question asked to me, if I, politically, was one of thoses &#8216;peace loving socialists&#8217;. I replied that I considered myself a-political, but that I, in fact cannot imagine any &#8216;rationale&#8217; for going to any war.  War doesn&#8217;t make victims and veterans alone. It&#8217;s a plague that affects people for years as it passes on to next generations. Thank you very much: while I might be considered left of the &#8216;aisle&#8217; by many, I consider myself a humanist first.\n<\/p>\n<p>At least I don&#8217;t pretend to be able to solve the problems in the world.
