Naturally there are a lot of people who <a href=\"http:\/\/arguewithsigns.net\/mt\/archives\/001808.html\">praise<\/a> or just plain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atrios.blogspot.com\/2004_06_06_atrios_archive.html#108653689878218796\">&#8216;footnote&#8217;<\/a> him, all around the net. And naturally, there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metafilter.com\/mefi\/33498\">long discussion<\/a> over at MetaFilter.\n<\/p>\n<p><P>For me, as a European-Canadian, I don&#8217;t  give a damn. With the rise of Reagan, we saw the start of the &#8216;It&#8217;s all about Image&#8217;-politics.  A great communicator in front of the TV, but boys-oh-boys, was Reagan bad when he made remarks on AIDS (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forward.com\/issues\/2003\/03.11.14\/news.extra.reagans.html\">none<\/a>), Russia  (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.ca\/search?q=Russia%2BEvil%2BEmpire%2BReagan&#038;hl=en&#038;lr=&#038;ie=UTF-8&#038;start=10&#038;sa=N\">&#8216;Evil Empire&#8217;<\/a>), South American dictators (Pinochet, Stroessner) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anc.org.za\/ancdocs\/history\/embargo\/rknight840403.htm\">&#8216;constructive engagement&#8217;<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tompaine.com\/feature2.cfm\/ID\/3810\">Ironic<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/P><\/p>\n<p>But then it was all image that counted and I keep wondering if those terrible Eighties laid the groundwork for today&#8217;s obsession with glitter and glamour.
