{"id":1624,"date":"2007-10-13T10:18:29","date_gmt":"2007-10-13T13:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1624"},"modified":"2007-10-13T14:18:21","modified_gmt":"2007-10-13T17:18:21","slug":"evil-feral-stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1624","title":{"rendered":"Evil feral stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcap\">I<\/span> have <a href='http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?attachment_id=1625' rel='attachment wp-att-1625' title='NSPE 2007'><img class=\"alignright\" src='http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/im_ns_pe_car_ous_sel.thumbnail.JPG' alt='NSPE 2007' \/><\/a>not really been following any news but &#8216;skirmished&#8217; through some of the Nobel prize announcements: Doris Lessing <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/entertainment\/7039100.stm\">won the one for Literature<\/a>. In the Physics section, the prize went (deservedly so) to two scientists who were instrumental in <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/science\/nature\/7035247.stm\">the development of hard disks<\/a>. But the biggest surprise was the announcement for the Peace prize, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/7041082.stm\">which went to both Al Gore and the IPCC<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/nobelprize.org\/nobel_prizes\/peace\/laureates\/2007\/index.html\">Nobel Prize website<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n<p>Feral Pigs On A Rampage: I can&#8217;t wait for the 100th installment of the movie based on <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/asia-pacific\/7042879.stm\">a true story that made the headlines in 2007<\/a>! The most notable quote comes from a &#8216;Boar Buster&#8217; who equates hunting pigs to &#8216;guerilla warfare&#8217;:\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"quote\">I need to utilize the information that I gain from the local population and then to be able to effectively react to that information to respond to the incursions from the feral pigs.\n<\/p>\n<p>What he needs is smart bombs.\n<\/p>\n<p>I also read an article <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/asia-pacific\/7042660.stm\">about the environmental issues concerning the Three Gorges Dam<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Three_Gorges_Dam\">Wikipedia<\/a>). I only mention this dam because, well, it&#8217;s so prominently featured in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?cat=31\">Civ IV game<\/a>.
