What to say about the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/americas\/6294401.stm\">State of the Union<\/a>?\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier (way earlier) on video chat with Alfons, Alfons brought up an image produced by NOAA, which shows the average temperatures in the US in 2006. &#8216;This is comical and also tragic&#8217;, he said before I opened the image in my favourite image editor. I think I laughed out loud, not being sure if this was real or not: if you&#8217;re background is science, that picture says a lot. But is it real? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaanews.noaa.gov\/stories2007\/s2772.htm\">Indeed, it&#8217;s real<\/a>. Better yet, they even have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noaanews.noaa.gov\/stories2007\/images\/2006-jan-dec-temps3.jpg\">high-resolution image<\/a> of that one, if you just don&#8217;t believe in statistics. You can&#8217;t miss it.\n<\/p>\n<p>Talking about science, my favourite CBC commentator is  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/informationmorningns\/sciencecorner.html\">Bob Fournier<\/a>, who appears on Information Morning every Wednesday around 8:15 am or something (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1096\">I mentioned him before<\/a>). This week he was discussing the Canadian research about that 1918 flu virus and the criticism of that research in the scientific community (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iht.com\/articles\/ap\/2007\/01\/17\/america\/NA-MED-US-Killer-Flu.php\">news at IHT<\/a>).
