{"id":1039,"date":"2006-04-09T15:24:27","date_gmt":"2006-04-09T19:24:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1039"},"modified":"2006-04-09T15:25:25","modified_gmt":"2006-04-09T19:25:25","slug":"the-gospel-of-judas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1039","title":{"rendered":"The Gospel of Judas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"dropcap\">T<\/span>his is too interesting to let this slip by as a &#8216;Recent Link&#8217; item:  Today, The National Geographic channel will broadcast <a href=\"http:\/\/www9.nationalgeographic.com\/ngm\/gospel\/index.html\">&#8216;The Gospel of Judas&#8217;<\/a> documentary, about a document lost for 1,700 years, that sheds a different light on the relationship between Judas and Jesus:\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"quote\">That Judas is entrusted with this task [ed. of betraying Jesus] is a sign of his special status. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lift up your eyes and look at the cloud and the light within it and the stars surrounding it,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Jesus tells him encouragingly. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The star that leads the way is your star.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Ultimately, Judas has a revelation in which he enters a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153luminous cloud.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d People on the ground hear a voice from the cloud, though what it says may be forever unknown due to a tear in the papyrus\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Geographic, The Judas Gospel may upset many Christians because it (first of all) reverses Judas role from traitor to hero. Secondly, the finding of the gospel illustrates how Christianity formed in those early days and how many of the gospels competed for inclusion into the &#8216;One Bible&#8217;, a book <em>commissioned<\/em> by the Roman emperor Constantine (this theme, yes, is heavily discussed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoogervorst.ca\/arthur\/?p=1038\">&#8216;The DaVinci Code&#8217;<\/a>).
